PURPOSE: To provide a housing for a protective air bag retaining system for a automotive vehicle being inexpensively manufacturable and capable of minimizing generation of chips. CONSTITUTION: A housing is provided with a pot-like generator carrier 2 to house an air bag 1 and a cover cap 3 containing this generator carrier 2 and having a predetermined breaking line. The cover cap 3 is provided with a reinforcing insert 4 interrupted in a range of the predetermined breaking line. The housing is also provided with a holding plate 5 to hold the cover cap 3 so as not to be unfairly removed. A cover cap reinforcing insert having an essentially rectangular reinforcing frame 8 is made of a dimensionally stable material with a high elastic modulus. The reinforcing insert is also provided with cut-out portions 9 to form the predetermined breaking line so as to form two flap-like cover surfaces 12, 13 only connected to an outer peripheral wall 8 along an essentially linear connecting line 11. |
