<p>A tuyere comprises a base portion (55) having input and output ports (60, 61) for a cooling medium, and a body portion (50) to be cooled. The base portion (55) has a cooling duct (52) protruding into the body portion (50) and the body portion is mechanically retained on the base portion, preferably by the duct itself. This enables the tuyere body to be made of ceramic material, which in comparison with the conventional copper is better able to withstand blast furnace temperatures and by virtue of its lower heat conductivity needs less cooling in any case.</p> |
