A horizontal double-screw press (10) has a feed hopper (21) extending downwardly towards the press screws (11, 12). Wings of the press screws (11, 12) are adapted to rotate in a direction towards each other in a direction downwardly into the intermediate space between respective cores of the press screws. Outlet opening (21c) of the feed hopper (21) is localised just at the top of the press screws (11, 12), centrally between the press screws, and communicates directly with lower basket (15) of the press via a relatively open and unrestricted passage between the press screws (11, 12) and has a breadth dimension (D) equal to or less than the centre distance (a) between the press screws. Screw wings of the press screws are relatively thin-walled and are arranged substantially wing-to-wing. |
