PURPOSE: To provide a method for operating retrieval for positioning the prescribed block of data in a copy file, and overwriting data for identifying the copy file on the data block in preparing the copy file from the master file of a data processing system. CONSTITUTION: A master copy 6 of a software file is provided with a scheduled data block 8. When the copy of the file is prepared, the data block in the copy file are positioned, and data for identifying a copy file 12 are overwritten. When the unauthorized copy file is found, the identification data of the copy file are read, and the tracking of the source of the unauthorized copy is available. This device is suitable to the preparation of the copy file and the software distribution to a computer network in which details such as the name of a user necessitating permission can be buried in the copy file. |
