The medical expanding instrument has two beak-shaped arms spread apart by a lever against spring action. One or both of the arms have on the inside a distal light source, wired to a battery in a housing by optical fibres. The housing has an end extenion into which the contact foot, on the arm having the light source detachably locks. The other arm is moved in opposition to the spring by the lever, which is adjacent to the contact foot.
