Described is a bevel-gear differential which is mounted in the final drive of a motor vehicle and can be locked by means of a hydraulically operated multi-plate actuator. The inner plates are mounted on a plate carrier so that they can move longitudinally but cannot rotate, the plate carrier being mounted on final-drive shaft next to a bevel-gear wheel. The plate carrier is designed in such a way that the multi-plate actuator surrounds the bevel-gear wheel at a certain radial distance from the wheel.
