<p>A down hole camera assembly for viewing a bore hole includes an outer, tubular housing having a thick steel wall to withstand high pressure forces. The assembly also includes an inner housing having a sealed vacuum space to provide thermal insulation from the bore hole environment. A camera mechanism is mounted in the inner and outer housings. The camera includes a power/transmission section and an imaging section. These sections are thermally isolated from one another by providing a first heat sink for absorbing heat from the power/transmission section and a second heat sink for absorbing heat from the imaging section. A coupling of thermally insulating material couples the two heat sinks together so as to form a substantially rigid camera chassis. A unique thermally isolated optic system operatively connected to the imaging section includes isolated front and rear lens groups held in an elongated housing constructed of thermally insulating material. Rear and front subassemblies seal the respective ends of the outer housing. A lighthead assembly mounted to the camera assembly includes a light source for illuminating the bore hole. The lighthead assembly is of modular design and may be changed without breaking the main housing seal.</p> |
