Coating compsn. consists of (A) an acrylate resin binder contg. OH, COOH andamino gps. (B) a polyisocyanate with at least 2 NCO gps./mol. as crosslinker, in amts. giving an NCO in (B) to OH in (A) ratio of 0.3-3.5:1, (C) organic solvent(s), (D) opt. pigments, fillers, usual ancillaries and additives and (E) opt. a cure catalyst. The novelty is that (A) is prepd. as follows; (I) An acrylate copolymer (F) contg. OH gps., with acid no. 5-30, pref. 8-25, is prepd. by copolymerisation of (a) 10-40., pref. 15-35 (wt.) % hydroxyalkyl alpha, beta-unsatd. carboxylate, (b) 0.1-8, pref. 0.5-4 % ethylenically unsatd. carboxylic acid and (c) 60-90 % other monomers with a polymerisable olefinically unsatd. double bond in an organic solvent, with addn. of polymerisation initiators; and (II) (F) is reacted with cpds. (G) contg. an average of 0.8-1.5, pref. 1 free NCO gp. and at least 1 tert.amino gp. per mol. in amts. such that (A) has an amine no. of 1-10, pref. 1-5.
