The spiral-type compressor comprises fixed and moving spiral bodies, each integral with the side plate. These engage together so as to form numerous compression chambers reducing in size round the fixed body as the movement one travels, the latter being prevented from rotation on its axis. The compressed medium flows out through a passage in the fixed sideplate, the gap. between the latter and the edge of the moving spiral body being sealed by a joint in a groove running along the edge of the moving spiral body. The joint extends to the leading portion of the moving body, while the outlet passage is of oblong cross-section so as to avoid overlapping with the joint during movement, while maintaining the necessary cross-sectional area of the passage. The joint itself can be of PTFE resin. ADVANTAGE - Improved sealing and avoidance of damage to joint.
