PURPOSE: To provide an inexpensive VDM transceiver having a simple constitution by using a photon IC of a semiconductor, which has an inline connection wave transmission part integrated with a transmission/reception part. CONSTITUTION: A long wavelength λ2 =1.5μm is sent to an inline wave transmission layer 202 of a laser part, consisting of a p<+> -layer 204, an i-type gain layer 203, the inline wave transmission layer 202, and an n<+> -cladding layer 201. A photodetector for a short wavelength λ1 =1.3μm, including the p<+> -layer 204 and the n<+> -layer 201 is formed inline. A signal from a laser does not interfere with the operation of the detector or a detected optical signal and is propagated in the direction opposite to that of the signal of λ1 . Thus, the output signal λ2 can be transmitted from the same end face 214 of the transceiver according to the reception of the input signal λ1 . It is effective is distributed Bragg- reflector laser or a Fabry-Pelot laser is used as a λ2 signal generating means. |
