PURPOSE: To obtain a liquid pharmaceutical composition containing 4-quilone derivative forming a complex with a specific divalent metal ion, capable of preserving the composition for a long period free from crystalline growth. CONSTITUTION: This liquid pharmaceutical composition includes 4-quinolone derivative e.g. nalidixic acid, oxolinic acid, pipemidic acid, cinoxacin and flumequin, especially norfloxacin complexed with a divalent metal ion selected from Cu<++> , Zn<++> and Mg<++> , suspended in a particle form having a size suitable for parenteral or ophthalmic administration (preferably <25μm, especially <10μm) in a liquid dispersing agent. The liquid dispersing agent is preferably a medium causing liquid/gel phase transition by being brought into contact with a physiological liquid (e.g. gellan gum) and the activities of the active ingredient is sustained by the use of the medium.
