AUTOMATIC LAYOUT OF NETWORK TOPOLOGY

PURPOSE: To provide a system which automatically lays out the topology of a computer network system and graphically displays it. CONSTITUTION: A list of nodes in the network and their mutual connections are taken out of a data base which can be constituted manually by a network administrator or automatically by software. The system obtains three screens at user's requests. The largest Internet screen shows the interconnections of the network. A network screen shows the network shown on the Internet screen. The network consists of segments and the system displays a screen of a node which is connected to any of the segments. The system is automatically updated when a new node is put in the data base. Further, when a list of nodes is added by software, it is dynamically updated.
