This invention relates to novel 2-(3,5-dimethyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)indole derivatives, and more specifically, to compounds of the formula (I) wherein R1 is a hydrogen atom or a methoxy group, and A is a C1-C4 alkylene group, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, a process for production thereof, and the use thereof as a medicine, particularly as a lipoxygenase inhibitor for polyunsaturated fatty acids.
