PURPOSE: To provide a high-speed and high-efficiency DC motor for performing work in a severe environment and at a remote location. CONSTITUTION: A DC progressive-wave motor 2 generates a drive force by making use of the shearing transformation obtained from the electric contact between a substance layer, which generates shearing transformation, answering an applied electric field, and a rotating element. In a rotary piezoelectric embodiment, the rotation of the motor shaft 4 is generated by the nonuniform intensity of an electric field around the contact part between a roller 8 around that shaft and an outer race 12, consisting of the piezoelectric substance for generating the shearing transformation. In case that the rotor rotates on the surface of the piezoelectric shearing wave, progressing together with the roller, rotation is generated. The roller exhibits the function of a commutator, but at that time, it is does not accompany sliding friction, and moreover this obviates the necessity for a conventional roller bearing. Since the clearance between motor parts is zero, this gives rigidity to the shaft which enables precise positioning and high-speed operation. |
