COMPOSITE SHEET MATERIAL GOOD IN FORMABILITY AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To produce a composite sheet material, having soft hand close to that of natural leather and excellent in formability by using multicomponent fiber containing a polyurethane as one component. CONSTITUTION:A fiber assembly is prepared from polyurethane-based multicomponent fiber containing a thermoplastic polyurethane (a polyester-based polyurethane having 158 deg.C softening temperature) as a dispersion medium component and a thermoplastic polymer (nylon 6 having 1.5X10<-5> equiv./g terminal amino group concentration) incompatible with the aforementioned polyurethane as a dispersed component or fiber consisting essentially thereof and then impregnated with a solution of a polyurethane (a polyether-based polyurethane having 198 deg.C softening temperature) having the softening temperature higher than that of the above-mentioned polyurethane by >=15 deg.C. The polyurethane in the multicomponent fiber is subsequently dissolved and the obtained substrate is led into a coagulation bath to coagulate the polyurethane. The resultant sheet material is then washed with water and dried.
