PURPOSE: To produce an asymmetric membrane which is suitable for gas separation, reverse osmosis and pervaporation applications by using a polyimide polymer which is based on a fully imidized 5(6)-amino-1-(4'-aminophenyl)-1,3- trimethylindane polymer. CONSTITUTION: A polyimide dope composing of 5(6)-amino-1-(4'-aminophenyl)-1,3- trimethylindane polymer, a solvent, a non solvent, a thickening agent, a void controller and the like is prepared. A film of this dope is cast on the supporting base, the solvent is evaporated, the residue is soaked in a coagulating medium, and washed and dried. Thus obtained asymmetric membrane has pore diameters of less than 20Å, CO2 /CH4 selectivity of at least 20 and CO2 permeability of at least 1.0 SCFH/ft<2> at 100 p.s.i and is suitable for gas separation, reverse osmosis and pervaporation applications. |
