<p>The filament (3) of the lamp is mounted on conductors (8) inside a cylindrical quartz glass envelope (1). Each end of the envelope is flattened into a pinch seal (5,6) over the conductors. The outer ends of the conductors are welded, soldered or crimped into the middle of a folded metal plate. The ends of the metal plate pass back along the flattened surfaces before splaying outwards. The preformed insulated caps (20,21) are pushed over the ends until the plate ends (32) spring out through windows (24) on each face of the caps. The plate ends provide the external electrical contacts of the lamp and also retain the caps on the lamp.</p> |
