The system consists of the use of submarines 1 to which is fastened, at the top and all along said submarines, a plurality of containers 1, 2', 2", of large capacity, specifically of large surface area, and these containers being open at the top such that, during the surfacing manoeuvre of the submarine, large sectors of the oil spill will be placed over the various containers and will in turn be deposited on the bottom of said containers, whilst the sea water leaves the containers via drainage holes made in their base and which, on account of their special size, which allows the passage of water, do not allow the passage of petroleum, the petroleum being removed from said containers with the aid of motorized pumps for storage in suitable tanks, the operating cycle being repeated after said containers have been completely emptied and following a further submerging manoeuvre of the submarine. <IMAGE>
