PURPOSE: To obtain an image or a character string, without a color smear in an electrophotographic color copying machine or a printer. CONSTITUTION: In a polygon mirror scanning type exposure device, beam position detectors 31 and 32 are arranged on both ends in the vicinity of the surface of an electrophotographic photoreceptor. A light beam controller 12"' receiving signals outputted from the detectors and a related control system precisely control beams, to place the beams in correct dot positions, in each color.
