Plant for melting nonferrous metals such as aluminium or its alloys and zinc or its alloys, which are at least partially in a divided form, especially chips and/or turnings, of the kind including a melting dish equipped with means for heat transfer towards the melting metal, which has a main melting dish part (1) which is equipped with the said main melting means and an adjoining melting compartment (4) which is of small dimensions when compared with the said main dish part (1), the said main dish part (1) and the said compartment (4) being used in combination with means for exchanging matter in the molten state, means for electrical stirring (26-27) fitted to at least one external wall (5-6) of the said compartment (4) and means for pouring out metal in a divided form (40) above and vertically in line with the said compartment (4). In this way the aluminium or zinc chips are carried into the bath while their oxidation and combustion is avoided. <IMAGE>
