PURPOSE: To provide a tool not to damage a wire in a restringing repair of a corotron. CONSTITUTION: A locking drum is provided on the downstream side of a spool 30 of a corotron wire. A torsion spring 65 connected to the locking drum draws the wire from the spool under the minimum tension, and is operated without applying any tension to the remaining wire on the spool. As an alternative, a locking wedge is used instead of the drum so that the harder the wire is pulled, the tighter the wire is held by the wedge.
