The apparatus comprises a standard base, having a bowl (14) equipped with two aligned end-fittings (16) terminating in inclined edges (18) allowing a trapezoidal gap to remain. It also comprises an insertable active unit (12) in the base and which can be coupled to the end-fittings. The active unit (12) comprises a trapezoidal casing for closing the gap, carrying O-ring seals (41) for connection with the end-fittings and containing the moving parts and a lantern (cage) (38) containing an operating shaft allowing a handling head to be received.
