A washable diaper (1) consists of an impermeable main body (3) and an absorbent inner body (5). The latter comprises an absorbent insert (33), surrounded by a permeable envelope (35). The insert (33) is composed of cotton layers (49) which are connected by filaments to a permeable flat filament (51). Moreover, the absorbent insert (33) comprises several cotton layers (49) and flat filaments (51), crossed by attachment seams (37, 39). The layers of cotton are composed of cellulose fibres to the extent of 70%, preferably viscose and polyester filaments.
