A lubrication and cooling facility partic. for an i.c. engine (1) has an oil sump (4) with return feed, from which oil is fed various parts of the engine via a pump (7). An oil reservoir (8) is located at a level above the sump, and has a connection (10) to the sump with valve (11) control. Oil is released to the sump when it is below a certain level (5). Oil returning from the engine when cold is connected (12) directly to the sump, and when the engine is warm a thermostat valve (13) directs oil to the reservoir. ADVANTAGE - Ensures effective cooling of hot oil, and requires the pump to feed only one oil circuit at any temperature.
