[Also in Division F4] A liquefied gas, e.g. methane, storage container maintained at atmospheric pressure, e.g. the inner hull 12 -of a double-hulled ship, is lined internally with a plurality of heat-insulation panels 14 held in side-by-side relation by adhesive and having flanges 16 by which they are secured to the hull 12 and the panels are themselves lined with a layer of liquid impervious panels 24 each formed by C-sectional frame 25, e.g. of aluminium covered by front and rear sheets 26, 27 of aluminium foil between which is located a honeycomb structure 28; adjacent panels 24 being connected together by a flexible bellows 38 spanning frame flanges 37 and by a clamping plate 30 spanning a gap 36 between frame flanges 30 and being lightly secured by a nut 32 on a stud 33 projecting from a mounting plate 31 freely supported in a keyway 23 formed in a plug 21 sealing the space 19 between adjacent panels 14 whereby relative movement may occur between panels 14, 24. Panels 14 are formed of fibre glass reinforced polyester shells 17 filled with polyurethane foam 18 as are the sealing plugs 21. The honeycomb structure 28 of panels 24 may be of fibre glass reinforced polyester, phenolic impregnated paper or aluminium. Leakage into the interior of panels 24 is detected by conventional means 43. |
