The machine tool with two hollow spindles (1, 5) in line with each other, has a bar (3) inserted into the first spindle (1) and secured by a clamping tube (4), also guided by a tube (2) at the feed end. The other end is machined then the second spindle (5) is advanced so that the end can be gripped by jaws (6), by operating a gripping tube (7). The jaws for the first spindle are opened and the second spindle grips the bar, and travels axially with the bar so that a section (11) forming the workpiece can be cut off.
