A loose leaf file has two spikes over which the loose leaves are placed. The two spikes are formed by the vertical leg of a U shaped member attached to the file spine. Each leg has lateral lugs at its upper end. These lugs are folded inwards to form a guide for a sliding strip. When removing sheets from the file, in order to remove underlying sheets, or to insert additional sheets in the correct order, the sliding strips are removed together with the sheets which are removed to provide access to the underlying sheets.
