PURPOSE: To inform a frictional connection state between a roadway and a driven wheel tire earlier to a driver of an automobile during ordinary driving operation. CONSTITUTION: A wheel peripheral force working synchronously with a wheel slip of a driven wheel is measured sequentially in an ordinary driving operation and in a semi-ordinary driving operation. In this case, the wheel slip is measured with a precision within a range of 0/∞. A pair of wheel peripheral force/wheel slip values found on a substantially dried roadway are stored, and if a value pair showing a greatly larger wheel slip as against that of the stored value pair having a substantially equal wheel peripheral force is generated or detected afterward, it is evaluated that the frictional connection state is greatly deteriorated.
