A three-way valve (2) delivers ink from a reservoir (1) to the printhead (4), whose nozzle plate (4a) is capped (5) with a hermetically sealed space (5a) connected to an ink return container (6). Max. and min. level detectors (6b, 6c) are wired to the controller (8) of the valve (2) and pump (3). When the head (4) is rinsed, dried ink flushed into the container (6) is recycled by suction (6a) through a filter (7), to proceed via the valve (2) back to the reservoir (1).
