The machine tool has a spindle (4) with a tool chuck (5) in a housing (7) sliding in a working area (7). Two independent grippers (13) of a tool changer (12) swing on a common axis, parallel to the spindle, in front of the chuck for tool changing and to a magazine (10), away from the working area. They are mounted on a straight guide (14) rotating through 180 deg. The two grippers simultaneously slide for a shorter distance between the pivoting position and the transfer one, level with the chuck, and a longer one between the pivoting position and the change-over one (11) at the magazine, being coupled to gear driven cranks of different strokes.
