The emission of olefinic monomeric vapours into the atmosphere from uncured articles on curing is prevented by top-coating the uncured article with a compsn. comprising polymerisable olefinic cpds and a polymerisation catalyst; curing the coating to form a barrier film; copolymerising the monomer vapours into the topcoat compsns.; and fully curing the article. The topcoat may be cured by exposure to heat or light. Cure may occur prior to curing the article (e.g. with a photocurable topcoat and a heat-curable article), or, if it cures more rapidly, the topcoat may be cured simultaneously (e.g. both being photocurable, or using a photocurable topcoat which causes and exothermic reaction sufficient to cure a heat-curable article).
