摘要 A stainless, highly wear-resistant, hardenable steel (I) has a novel compsn. (by wt.) 13-18% Cr, max. 1.5% Si, max. 1.5% Mn, max. 3% (inclusive) Mo, max. 1% Ti, over 5%, but max. 8% Nb, with the balance being Fe plus impurities caused by smelting. Average C content is determined by the formula; C% = (Nb + 2Ti/a)+ b, in which values for a and b are 9 and 0.7 respectively. A steel (II) with the compsn. (by wt.) 1.3-1.6% C, 14-16% Cr, 1-2% Mo, 0.2-0.5% Ti, over 5%, but max. 7% Nb, with the balance being Fe plus impurities caused by smelting. USE/ADVANTAGE - Claimed uses of steels (I) and (II) are in the manufacture of; (i) tools for the plastics and food industries, (ii) a cutting tool, and (iii) rustproof pump components and valves for use partic. with particle-laden, corrosive fluids.
