PURPOSE:To dispense with a special detecting means in a specified operational region such as a low rotational speed region and the like by performing direct coupling control allowing a fine slip to improve fuel consumption and judging direct coupling vibrations due to the degradation of working oil by detecting a predetermined number of times of changes in the slip amount. CONSTITUTION:In an automatic transmission provided with a torque converter 20 having a direct coupling mechanism 26 like a damper clutch, etc., when the engine is run within a predetermined running region by a controller 40, a slip amount is controlled to the proximity of a desired slip amount by the direct coupling mechanism 26. Also, when during a predetermined period the number of change times in the detected slip amount crossing predetermined upper and lower limit values larger and smaller than the desired slip amount are stored to detect the changes in the predetermined number of times of changes in the slip amount, the control of the slip amount to the desired slip amount is controllably inhibited. |
