The upper part 1 of a causeway is a breakwater comprising a front wall 2 facing the on coming waves 8 and a rear wall 3 which with end walls force a basin 7 having a storage capacity for water during the arrival of each wave, the front wall 2 having at its lower part an orifus 5 which enables the basin to be partly or wholly emptied between the arrival of two successive waves. The rear wall 3 is higher than the front wall and may be provided at its upper portion with a curved section 6 turned towards the open sea and adapted to serve as a deflector. In the embodiments described the principle is applied to a vertical causeway, a sloping causeway, a stone facing for protecting a bank, a breakwater supported on piling and a floating breakwater. |
