<p>PURPOSE: To make the alarm strip of a price tag inactive at the time of reading a bar code on an object and to reduce the burden on a cashier by providing more than one permanent magnets near an optical bar code reader. CONSTITUTION: The hand scanner 1 is provided with an opening 2 protruding outward and it contains the optical bar code reader (not illustrated) positioned in the opening 2. The permanent magnets 3 and 4 are adjacently arranged on a face which is substantially parallel to a face where the bar code is positioned when the bar code is read. The alarm strip of the price tag which is positioned near the bar code is inactivated by the permanent magnets 3 and 4. When the price tag is placed in a position which is far detached from the bar code, the cashier moves the hand scanner 1 to the price tag and inactivates the alarm strip.</p> |
