An image displaying apparatus is comprised of a screen capable of displaying an image with a width-to-height aspect ratio of 16:9, a first storage device for storing a main image signal with a width-to-height aspect ratio of 4:3. a second storage device for storing a sub image signal with a width-to-height aspect ratio of 4:3, a display device for displaying on the screen main and sub images of the main and sub image signals read out from the first and second storage device, an input device for inputting an arrangement of the main and sub images on the screen, and a control circuit, responsive to a signal from the input means, for controlling a timing at which the main and sub image signals are read out from the first and second storage devices so that the sub image is displayed on a portion of the left or right side of the main image displayed on the screen. <IMAGE>
