952,807. Forming micro-capsules. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO. May 16, 1962 [Sept. 5, 1961], No. 18888/62. Heading B8C. Microcapsules are formed by dispersing a nucleus material as a discontinuous phase in an inert oily vehicle at a temperature sufficient to melt a waxy wall-forming material also present as a discontinuous phase, and then cooling the system, with continued agitation, so that the waxy material is deposited on the particles of nucleus material and solidified. The nucleus material may be liquid or solid, or a mixture of both. Suitable wall materials include polyethylene, paraffin and tristearin. The Specification lists several suitable oily vehicles including silicone oils and fluorinated oily materials together with corresponding wall materials. Aluminium powder, or other powdered metals, or colloidal silica, may be included in the vehicle so that they are deposited in the capsule walls. A further coating of waxy material, or of hydrophobic or hydrophilic polymers, may be added. |
