LIQUID CRYSTAL ELECTRO-OPTICAL DEVICE

An improved liquid crystal electro-optical device is disclosed. The liquid crystal electro-optical device comprises two panels (11,12), each of which comprises a pair of substrates (14,15) and nematic liquid crystals disposed therebetween in a helical structure. Instead of using four substrates, a liquid crystal electro-optical device comprising three substrates forming two liquid crystal layers therebetween is also disclosed. Further a liquid crystal electro-optical device comprising a pair of substrates and a pair of films is disclosed.
