<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a vacuum melter by generating a stabilized arc discharge with a consumable electrode without using an auxiliary gas even if the pressure in a vacuum chamber is decreased to several Torr or less. CONSTITUTION:An annular magnet 4 is set in a vacuum chamber 3 to surround at least an electrode 1B on the cathode side between a couple of electrodes 1A and 1B horizontally opposed in the chamber 3, and a crucible 5 is arranged directly below the consumable electrode 1A on the anode side in the chamber 3. Under these conditions, a DC voltage is impressed on the consumable electrodes 1A and 1B from a DC power source 2 in the evacuated chamber 3 to generate an arc discharge, hence the creeping up of the arc is prevented, the arc discharge is stabilized, the electrode 1A on the anode side is quantitatively melted into the material and dropped into the crucible 5, and a super alloy in a specified ratio is formed with the molten metal previously placed in the crucible 5.</p> |
