Steering device for a vehicle wheel comprising a wheel carrier connected by a ball joint to the lower link (t) of a suspension of the vehicle and a steering rod (10) connected to steering gear. Between the rod (10) and the wheel carrier (14) is interposed a mechanism, the elements (11, 12, 13, etc.) of which are rotationally connected in order to orientate the wheel carrier (14) and the wheel (R) on the one hand, and, on the other hand, are telescopically connected in order to compensate for and absorb the variations in height of the said wheel.
