The invention relates to an optical concentrator intended more particularly for connecting, to a telecommunications network, subscriber terminals emitting and receiving data in the form of cells, of fixed length, via asynchronous time-division multiplexing, in particular on an optical fibre. One embodiment includes, for processing cells coming from the subscriber terminals: - a stage (31.1 to 31.16) for non-synchronous, statistical time-division and spectral multiplexing; - a stage (33.1 to 33.16) for rephasing with respect to a local clock; - a stage for spectral multiplexing and throughput conversion (35); - a stage for periodic time-division multiplexing (37). For processing cells intended for subscriber terminals, it includes: - a stage (40) for periodic time-division demultiplexing and for spectral multiplexing and throughput adjustment; - a stage (42) for throughput conversion; - a stage (44.1 to 44.16) for spectral demultiplexing.
