The discharge channel (10) through which laser gas circulates (12) is split into sections (30a-30d) with parallel axes (32) aligned with the flow. Pref. each section (30) is mfd. of ceramic or quartz, self-supporting with upper and lower transverse walls (34, 36) spaced apart by sidewalls (38, 40). The optical beam (22) passes through slots (56) in the juxtaposed sides of the sections (30) at right angles to the gas flow (12), between mirrors (24, 26) at opposite ends of the axis (28) of a cavity resonator. ADVANTAGE - Simpler and more compact modular structure is suitable for high laser power, and can be extended easily.
