A one-piece clamp (1) is formed from a lower member (2) in which a V-groove is incorporated with ends (84, 85) widened to facilitate entry of optical fibre into its centre (81), and an upper member (3) divided into three corresp. parts (4-6) with resilient pads (11-13). One part (6) is closed when the first optical fibre is in position. The other parts (4, 5) are closed sequentially when the two fibres are butted together in the centre (81) of the groove. ADVANTAGE - Optical fibres are readily centred in groove which can be formed easily with max. precision in lower clamping member.
