A plastic closure for a liquid container has a cap with cover and its opening; the sides of the cap extend up beyond the cover so that the cap has a space open at the top and above the cover. A top plate pivots to open and close and it has an outlet at the one side; when this plate is closed the outlet is closed by the side of the cap; in the closed position that side of the plate is at a distance from the top edge of the side of thecap. The rim all round the circumference of the plate extends downwards into the open space on the cap and it has a side hole beneath the plate; the rim is elastic enough to seal off the side of the cap beneath its top edge. The underside of the plate has a pivoting arrangement so that the plate can pivot about the base of the space without turning. The plate meets stops in the space. In the as-supplied state of the container, the rim has a connecting feature which is sheared off when the container is used by tilting the top plate into the open position.
