A device comprises (i) a supply duct (1) through which air at a required temp. passes, (ii) a container (2) for receiving the food, and (iii) at least one connecting duct (7) via which air is drawn from the supply duct (1) into the container. The connecting duct (7) has a relatively rigid structure, and has a saw-tooth profile (9) on its side which faces the supply duct. An axial self-tapping screw element (11) projects beyond the saw-tooth profile (9), and a wall opening (12) in the connecting duct (7) is located inside the supply duct (1). The self-tapping screw element is attached to a plate (10) which closes the connecting duct (7). The saw-tooth profile and the self-tapping screw element are made of metal, and the connecting duct may be made of metal or plastic. The connecting duct extends into the floor (5) of the container and is fitted to an opening in the container by a flange (8). A grating covers the end of the connecting duct which lies in the floor of the container and this end of the connecting duct can also be closed by a sliding plate. An external sealing ring (13) on the connecting duct rests against the surface of the supply duct. Ridges (16) on the floor of the container extend radially from the connecting duct. Elements are provided in the container for holding the food elements in the required positions. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used for preserving food in road haulage vehicles. The connecting duct is attached to the existing air supply duct in a simpler manner, so that the installation of the food preserving container can be achieved without difficulty.
