Assembly of motor vehicle bodywork - by clamping panels in position before welding them together

The assembly of the bodywork of a motor vehhicle is carried out in three stages. In the first stage, the side walls and an inner roof panel are mounted on a clamping unit which is provided with a first clamping mecanism to hold the side walls in position after they have been placed on the floor panel. A second clamping mechanism holds the outer roof panel in position after it has been placed on the inner roof panel. In the second stage the bodywork side panels are welded to the roof panels whilst being held in place by the clamp. In the third stage, the various clamping mechanisms are removed from the assembled bodywork. USE/ADVANTAGE - Assembly of motor vehicle bodywork. The panels are accurately positioned w.r.t. each other.
