<p>In the anaerobic purificn. of waste water, with retention of biomass, by a combination of different methods of immobilisation, (a) waste water fed into the lower part of a biogas rector with ratio of height:dia. of 3-5:1, flows vertically, (b) a directed horizontal flow is obtd. in the lower part of the reactor, holding particles with a settling speed of less than 0.3 m/sec. in suspension, (c) there is a support for microorganisms in the upper part of the reactor, as a layer of max. thickness 15% of the height of the reactor, and (d) the average hydraulic residence time in the highly loaded region is between 2 hrs. and 1 day, and in the weakly loaded region is 1-10 days. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp, heavily loaded waste water from agriculture and the food industry is treated. Enrichment of the biomass in the reactor system ensures high purificn. efficiency, the horizontal flow in the lower part reduces settling on the bottom of the reactor and entrainment of biomass particles into the support, stepwise purificn. gives considerable removal of contamination, and there is little need for control. Blockage of the support layer is avoided</p> |
