The appts. has a support yoke (6) at the press assembly in a mounting at the pedestal for the central drum (1), keyed against rotation, where a continuous steel band passes round a heated and powered central roller drum (1). The support yoke (6) has a dish shape on the side towards the central drum (1) to contain a number of hydraulic cylinders (8) in a matrix pattern, next to each other, aligned towards the axis of the central drum (1). The active surfaces of the hydraulic cylinder pistons (12) have a packet (9) of loose and separate plates (9a,9b). At the entry side of the support yoke (6), the separate plates (9a,9b) are bonded together with the support yoke (6). A roller strip (7) is between the packet (9) of plates and the steel band (10) and it also passes round the support yoke (6) and a tensioning roller. Pref. the packet (9) of plates is connected to the support yoke (6) through an angled plate (23), a swivel joint (24) and a control arm (25). The packet (9) can be in the form of a single thick plate. Heating channels (13) are at the end sites of the pistons (12). The hydraulic cylinders (8) are operated individually. ADVANTAGE - The appts. can apply a continuous press action to material with a thickness of more than 6 mm, to give a strong compression to reduce its thickness.
