The feeder for lengths of packaging material which is pulled off a spool by means of take-off rollers and conveyed over a cutter's storage-container (1) to a packaging machine. The cross-section of the storage-container (1) is pref. rectangular, with the narrow side slightly wider than the width of the packaging (P). The storage-container (1) is divided by a partition (2) ending in front of the base into a storage compartment (3) and an extraction-compartment (4). The end or the cover of the storage-compartment (3) has one or more optical sensors (5,5') with different measuring-points (T,T'). ADVANTAGE - Packaging is fed to the packaging machine and cut into equal portions.
