PURPOSE:To enhance conversion ratio of aromatic aldehydes and selectivity of phenols and thereby improve space time yield of phenols. CONSTITUTION:Composite metallic oxides having spinel-type crystal structure represented by a general formula, AB2O4(A,B : metal) and basic compounds are contained in catalysts. Metals A of the composite metallic oxides are magnesium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, zinc or cadmium. Metals B of the oxides are aluminum, chromium, iron, cobalt, vanadium, gallium or indium. The basic compounds are compounds of alkali metals or alkaline earth metals. The composite metallic compounds are NiFe2O4 and further nickel oxides and basic compounds are contained in the catalysts. In the presence of the catalyst containing the composite metallic oxides having spinel-type crystal structure represented by the formula AB2O4 and the basic compounds, the aromatic aldehydes are subjected to vapor-phase catalytic oxidation to manufacture phenols. |
